Khark Petrochemical Co. :
Khark petrochemical complex was first, established as Kharg chemical co. To recover Propane, Butane, Naphtha and Sulphur from the offshore oil field associated gases by the joint venture of national petrochemical company of Iran and American Co.(Amoco) on a 50/50 basis with a capital of 900 million Rials.
Engineering of the operational units was carried out by J.E.Prichard(U.S.A) and the construction and installations by Chiyoda(Japan), started early in 1967 and commissioned in 1969.
In 1992 in order to prevent the flaring of surplus gases, to produce a product with considerable added value, to have a movement toward self sufficiency, to ease technology transfer, to increase incomes, to reduce environmental pollution and to provide occupation opportunities in the region, construction of Kharg methanol plant was started. This plant with production technology from Lurgi (Germany) with the investment of $ 149.5 million and 465.5 billion Rials, established in an area of 24 Hectar and was commissioned in 1998.
